sorry new to this

I had my out drive stolen ..does anyone no what i need to replace it with..the model # is 962740...here are a couple of pics also.....and does anyone no where the shifting cable goes in to the..well i call it the transmission

A Picture of What is Left of Where the Outdrive belongs would be Much More Helpful..............

They probably stole yours because they couldn't find one. Thats an OMC stringer drive. You will probably have to search on ebay for one. They do show up on occassion. You will need to know whether you need a long or short drive.

Here is a pic of where his drive used to be.

so how do i no if i need a short or long..there is only about 5 inches from the bottom of whats left and the bottom of boat

What year is the boat? Is it electric shift (has buttons)?

I had an old cruisers inc., and now have a 67 TBird, both of which had stringer drives. In both cases the shift wires would go through the transom near the upper left of the ball gear in your picture. From the inside of the boat, there should be a hole above and to the left of the tilt motor. I'm no expert, but I hope that is helpful.

Im not sure if it elictric or not..but i can say there is no buttons

Now can u tell me if that ball gear suppose to turn when u start the motor or is it in gear...it turns when i start the motor

The ball gear will turn. The shift mechanism is in the lower unit of the outdrive. So, regardless of whether or not the boat is in gear, you should always see that gear turn. Try marineengineparts.com or google "french creek marina". They tend to carry no longer available parts for omc. Maybe they could point you in the right direction for a new stringer drive.

From the info and looking at the boat, it looks like your gonna need a 400 series, mechanical shift, short drive.
