Sorry - Nother Humminbird question

When I purchased a used 1995 23' Sea Ray 5 years ago, it already had installed a Humminbird Wide Vision depth/fish finder. Also installed is a Lowrance
3500 Digital Depth Sounder. I don't know how the Lowrance gets its sonar signal, but there is no (sonar)switch. Initially, the H'bird would show fish but in the last few months has rarely shown such a display.. Bottom is shown, no fish. I have tried isolating all of the wiring (FM radio,VHF, Lowrance) under the dash from each other to no avail. Is there something I can do? Is the transducer going bad? There is some kind of disc (aprox. 1.5 inch circular) mounted in the bottom of the hull off the port/stearn side. Any guesses on whether its H'bird tranducer, temp sensor or Lowrance? It has had bottom paint applied which I have scraped off. Also I can see, but not reach, what I think is a thru hull tranducer - looks like a computer mouse on steroids - attached to the inside of the hull forward and portside of the engine.
Only thing left to say is salt water in winter and fresh water in summer. Suggestions?

Hey gstanton, if your boat is sundancer, that black puck in you hull is the transducer for the lowrance. but it should'nt interfere with your hummingbird if it is off. There should be an on off switch for it on your dash.

Jim

Thanks, now I know what THAT is! You're right, it is switched and when the Lowrance is on or off it doesn't matter to the H'bird

To see fish on any fish finder turn the sensitivity up until you get many false returns at the depth your fishing. If your fishing 200 feet deep then turn the sensitivity up until you see lots of returns at 200 feet. If the unit does not have a surface cluter control then the top 1/3 of the screen will probably be solid black.

OK. Turned the sensitivity all the way up to +5 and went tooling around. Picked up a few fish but nothing like what (I think) it should be. Yesterday I was in a school of blues, catching them right and left - literally - but nothing was showing on the H'bird.

Grrrrrrr.

With it turned all the way up did you get a lot of false returns in the depth you were fishing? how deep were your fishing. If you can not turn it up enough to get false returns then try doing it in manual. After that time to call the hummngbird support people. Transducer do fail so may beed to be replaced.
