I've been told before to bypass the trim limit thingy and use my trim button to raise my drive for trailering... but I just ain't seeing it...

...and it takes a lot for me to admit something like this, because I wrench on everything....

But I can't be sure near the transom/outdrive what harness I need to bypass....

Help.... i need to trailer the boat soon!

Go into the correct year for your engine and drive Mercruiser in the Mercruiser service manual links, I assume since you run a 502 it's a Merc, right?
There may be a quick repair or fuse you can repair, there may also be a troubleshooting sequence to follow in there too. Here is a link to all the service manual links, pick your "poison".

Anyway if it is in there you can look up the trim & tilt info there and figure where to jump it to raise the drive...only do it once or very little. BTW, you would be smart to disconnect the wiring where you jump to avoid further electrical issues.

Ayuh,... Where the wires come In from the drive, they connect to the harness with bullet connectors...
Disconnect 'em,+ reconnect By-passed...

Finally have daylight to look at this.... so I will continue to be utterly annoying on this issue.

So... The harness is inside the boat and is NOT the round sending trim limit unit on the outside/port side? I am going to climb down behind the engine and find the wires coming in from port side into a harness.... inside the boat at the transom?

You should find two pair of twin black wires, one pair is connected to the trimpump and the other ones to harness that goes to the trim-indicator on the dashboard. I think that if you disconnect the on the pump you shouldn't
be able to trim just tilt. If you then can connect a wire between those two and leave the the switch disconneted you should not see any difference between the trim and tilt buttons. I'am doing this in my head right now, but you don't need to worry about harming you system trying this one.
