I know this is an old thread but try decarbing the engine and putting in new spark plugs afterwards.

Also, when shifting into gear, do it quickly.

The pistons get carbon built up on them and the sparkplugs tend to fowl causing the engine to not want to idle well, Force is known for this. Pick up a can of Quicksilver Powertune Engine Cleaner at your local Mercury dealer and follow the directions on the can. But before you do that use the search button at the top of the forum page and type Force engine decarb and read up on the subject!
Replace the original sparkplugs after decarbing the engine with new one's as decarbing fowls the originals.
