I was just wondering why do outboard engines when testing them in the driveway sound sooo much louder than a car engine. lawn mower. even louder than a weed wacker??

Umm... since you're running what could either be a 2, 3, 4, or 6 cylinder motor with absolutely no muffler whatsoever?

Most outboards have through prop exhaust. When the boat is in the water the exhaust is in the water and the water acts like the muffler. In the driveway it is a straight exhaust.

BTW, this should be in the engine forum.

motor boat
The act of sticking your face between a pair of ones breasts and shaking your head violently while making noices that resemble a moter boat

Googled motor boat sounds and this came up. It's from the urban dictionary, by the way. That dude needs a spell checker.

LOL - sorry, but I have something better ... a radial aircraft engine turning through "12 blades" to clear the lower cylinders of oil, followed by the belching of black smoke as the mags are turned on, and then the "tha thump, tha thump, tha thump" of a few thousand cubic inches of unmuffled exhaust coming out of the stacks!

But, then again, there is the sound of a 12 cylinder Allison in a P51 ......

Sorry for getting off boats, but Jay started it!

Never heard one, but those that have say there is nothing in the world, like the sound of a "Russian Bear-H" spy planes ...

... and yes they are flying over Europe again. Uninvited.

This one is being escorted by our friends at the RAF in a Typhoon.

Yup, I started it! :D

It all began when I was but a lad, flying SAR misssions as a crewman in a Grumman Albatross seaplane. If you're not familiar with that but have seen the latest Batman movie, there is a scene where one is used.

I just love the sound of a "round engine!"

I've always loved those old warbirds . A local show had a B-17 and a B-26 that you could hitch a ride in--for $500....They sounded great flying overhead.:)
