I may need a starter for a 1998 Mercury 90HP. Any suggestions for a reliable firm that offers reasonable prices and good service?

You can also try an auto-electric shop (one that does alternators and starters).. They may be able to rebuild yours much cheaper than new or rebuilt.

Re: Source for Rebuilt Starter?

Thanks for the help. I have found a local rebuilder in Englewood, FL, who would do it for $65. When I took it in, he tested it, opened it up, found nothing wrong except some accumulated gunk, cleaned it out, and charged only $10 to boot. It's good to know that there are still many decent and honest people in our country. Now my starter turns over like a race car engine!

After some reasearch, I have also found out that the Arco firm in Pensacole, FL will give you good products at a reasonable price -- www.arcomarine.com, including starter rebuilding kits.
