Space between transom and outboard lip.

I recently transferred a 1988 100 HP mercury outboard from my old fiberglass hull (SeaRay) to a newer aluminum hull (1998 Starcraft). Although the bolt holes seemed to align nicely, I notice that there is about a 1/8" gap between the transom's top edge and the engine mount. This has me worried that the weight of the entire outboard is on the four mounting bolts only. Should I be concerned about this? If so, is there anything that I can do about it? Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks!

No cause for concern. You will notice that you have several bolt holes on that engine, all there to allow you to adjust the transom height to accomodate your needs. This engine do'es not automatically need to be slammed down on the transom.

Re: Space between transom and outboard lip.

I have my Merc 1250 mounted 3/4 of an inch above the transom, to give me the desired height I was looking for. I have a piece of wood in the space, but it is not necessary. I did that just to make mounting it a little easier....

You do want to look at your cavitation plate though (the large horizontal plate above the prop). It needs to be within an inch of the very bottom of the hull. Mine is set for almost an inch above the hull bottom. That gives me the performance I was looking for in my application..
