Spare parts European dealership

Hi all!<br /><br />A topic that is somewhat different from the others: I'm seriously considering opening a dealership for marine spare parts in my country (SLOVENIA, EUROPE) - i could supply Slovenia, Croatia, Austria and Hungary from my location. Which dealer from US would you recommend? I already talked to dougrussell.com and they would be interested in doing business with me - are they the right address or do you know anyone better?<br /><br />Now, the reason i made that decision:<br /><br />Holley carb rebuild kit US (dougrussell): 36,75$<br />Holley carb rebuild kit AUSTRIA: 165€ (approx. 220 US$) <br />Holley carb rebuild kit SLOVENIA: 265€ (approx. 355 US$) <br /><br />Ok, i had to add 2 things when buying in the us: shipping & handling (60$ for 3 days delivery) and tax (20% - 6$). And the price was not for a dealer! All the prices i compared to US are much more expensive here in Europe. What do u guys think?<br /><br />Thanx, <br /><br />Alex

ya may have something<br /> I am doing a similar thing but I am moving to Venezuela to do it. if you haave the capital to sit on it you can move things cheaper by contaainer ship rather than air. just takes 6 to 8 weeks. I do have the advantaage of my fiancee's brother in law is in the families import export business and knows how to ship things at a reduced cost. it comes down to a matter of shipping expense versus shipping time. by boat from here to russia is 6 to 10 weeks. by boat from Norfolk VA to caracas VE is about 6 weeks. the ship transport cost is marginal. the air transport is tough. by air its in caracas the next day or so. but the maain thing is to study the customs and tax laws for the port of entry. that and to give gifts to the customs agents that normally handle your shipments. I have found that using a broker helps cut down the red tape. study what parts you will stock carefully. for example, some years back I stocked the OMC 2 wire trim motors. there were 4 part numbers. the only difference in tha actual parts was the length of the trim motor leads. I stocked only the one with the longest leads. a lot of the Rapier/CDI stuff is packaged to be universal. as is a lot of the ARCO stuff. you should spend some time looking at what engines are most common in your targeted market.

Yea, i know about the transport. Those 60$ were the most expensive way to get it to me - but time was of the essence. A container shipped to Mediterranean / Adriatic sea is like 1400$

You need to take a look and see what kind of boats/drives are in your neck of the woods. If you have the capital to stock the right stuff, it sounds like a good idea. I went to France in May and I have no doubt that everything is more expensive in Europe.....J

depends on what ya want.<br /> Tony Woodisse at Shorflyte marine has extensive experience shipping over seas. he the englishman in camden county North carolina. he has a web site someplace about. if you set up all the tax info most any wholesaler in the states will ship it most anyway you wish. a lot of parts can be shipped in a 20ft container if ya pack it carefully.
