EDIT: Sorry, you don't seem to know where you are.

This is a retail outlet that sells many marine related items, including parts.

Our policy is to not allow buying, selling or solicitation on the board.

Re: spare starter?

Okay, maybe I overreacted. But this is the second time one of my posts has been deleted.

The first one that got deleted, I was asking where I could find a part. I was asking for advise as to where I could get it. I was not posting a want ad.

This time really pissed me off because there is another post on this board looking for a small part. The post was by Rob Poe. I'm in no way saying anything bad about him, but why was that thread left alone? I mean for Christ's sake, he advertised that he needed a part right in the subject line and it was BOLD! You couldn't miss it. But my post entitled "spare starter" gets shut down? Come on. Are we playing favorites or something?

And I'd like to address another issue I keep running into too. I keep getting told "you need to buy a manual." While I'll admit that I probably do, I can't exactly afford it right now.

I thought the whole object to this board was to help people out, not simply tell them to buy a manual. If you don't feel like answering a question because you think it's too stupid or simple or for some other reason, why not just move on?

Every other forum I've been to like this has a FREE classifieds section. Again, it's to help people out.

And Heybaylor, I don't appreciate the comment.

Chris

You watch what you post (and your temper), ShafferNY, and we will watch what others post.

We miss a few; there are over 100 posts a day on this board. If we miss one, it does not give license to others to break our rules.

Re: spare starter?

Shaffer, my suggestion to you is that if you cant afford a manual, then you cant afford to be on a boat. Check ebay, I bought mine used for 5 bucks and I have learned so much from it.

A manual can explain things with pictures and is much more clear than anything we can describe here.

IMO, these forums are for questions that arent in the manual.

Ken

"I keep getting told "you need to buy a manual." While I'll admit that I probably do, I can't exactly afford it right now. "
==========================

Actually, you can't afford NOT to have a manual. Without one, you're just working in the dark, and probably fixing things that aren't broken or, worse, breaking things you weren't trying to fix.

A manual is cheap, compared to the cost of your boat and motor. It's a necessity if you're going to work on your own motor.

This forum is terrific. The help here is free and comes from people who know what they're doing. Imagine having to pay for that help. Everyone's volunteering their time.

Having a largish chip on your shoulder doesn't work here. Not ever.

Re: spare starter?

It really doesn't make sense to me to say that if I can't afford a manual, I can't afford to be on the lake. I mean, if I'm going to need a manual for this motor that often, then Mercurys are junk and maybe I should look for a different motor.

It really doesn't cost that much to run an old beater for a boat and a 20hp motor just to go fishing on the weekends.

I don't believe I have a "chip" on my shoulder. From my prospective it seemed like I was being singled out for some reason. This is the only board where I've ever had a post deleted, and it happened twice.

JB, I'm sure that you guys probably do miss a few now and then, but why hasn't that thread been touched since I brought it to your attention? And do you actually expect me to believe you guys missed that thread? B.S.

You can ban me from this board, delete my user account or whatever you want. I won't be back.

Pity. This is a great forum. Simple rules...terrific help. Oh, well...
