Re: spare tire

Make certain it is a trailer rated tire though.
Not a car tire equivalent.

Re: spare tire

Along with the tire you need the proper wheel size, and esp bolt pattern. Does not hurt to have a spare set of wheel bearings with you and put some bearing buddies on your wheels and grease them often.

Re: spare tire

Trailer Tires have been designed to handle trailer loads.

Car tires were designed to handle car loads.

Two totally different loads and handling chacteristics.

A spare tire is a great idea. What tires are on your trailer now? That's the size you should get as your replacement.

That depends on the trailer........I have had problems getting a car jack to go high enough.

Personally I use a bottle jack that I keep under my back seat along with a 2x6 for a flat surface. I keep a jack stand back there as well.........

Re: spare tire

when a trailer tire goes flat, there is not a lot of room under the axle, to get a jack. let the air out of one and see what i mean.

Re: spare tire

take a hunk of 4x4 and cut the end at an angle, pull the flat up on it it will raise the axle high enough to get the jack under it.

Re: spare tire

I'm with Pony, I keep a small bottle jack and a few chunks of 2 by 6 with me when I take the boat to the cottage for the summer. Probably because I only tow twice a year I make a big deal out of it, extra everything, but it is a four hour trip and I have lots of time to prepare for it. Also I bring a large breaker bar with extension and proper six point socket for the bolts. It doesnt matter what your doing if you bring spares and are prepared to use them, seems you never need to!!

Re: spare tire

You can probably get that tire from any Goodyear dealer, but will pay the price for it. Unless you just want everything to match, any spare tire of the same size will work. Most people only use a spare long enough to get their original repaired and put back on. I just put a new set of radials on my trailer the same size as yours and they range anywhere from $60 - $100 each.

Re: spare tire

I've had success with kmttrailer.com. They've got wheels and tires for our boat trailers, and prices, even with shipping included, cannot be beat.
