You can make a spark tester; attach a alagator clip to the hex base of a old spark plug, you can set the gap of the plug to the recommended distance depending on your motor, then attach the plug wire to your tester and the clip to a good ground. One note from experance if you have fuel running to the motor do not put the spark tester in front of a open plug hole.
