Hi Everyone:

Just installed a used power pack on 1989 evinrude 90hp. Had pulled off flywheel, stator and rectifier to clean and check for problems.

It's dark out and I'm using a flash light. With everything back together, I went to start it up and noticed- looking just above the carbs, under the flywheel at the bottom of the timer-base and stator an arc or spark flash when it started. Shut her down and restarted and didn't notice it again. Is that normal or is there something wrong with the installation?

Thanks for your time. Just wanted to take her fishing in the morning and did not won't to break down again. Broke down so many times now my Friends don,t answer there phones on the weekend when it,s me calling!! LOL

I would't say that a spark in that area is normal, but if you can't duplicate the problem it is going to be tough to fix it.

Thanks for the reply Daviet.

Your right. Not sure if it was debris I missed or cleaning solution left on it.
Or maybe that,s what caused my power pack to blow in the first place. Not sure I hope not. But thanks again.

You might want to remove the flywheel and check the stator in the area where you saw the flash. Check for a burned spot on the stator coils and that the stator potting looks ok. Best not to have a random spark that close to the fuel system.

Thank you for your reply emdsapmgr.

Good idea, I will pull it back apart and check it this morning before I leave out.

Thanks again
