I am new to Boating and could use some advice.
Yesterday I bought a replacement motor for my boat. It's a 1987 Johnson 30HP.
Got it home and checked the compression. It came up at 110-105. within speck for an older motor I guess.
The guy I bought it from said that he tried to start it in the spring and there was a spark that came out from the
controls near the dead man's switch.
I took them apart and don't see any signs of a poor connection or blackened wires.
I was thinking of by passing the switch just to see if it has spark.
If anyone has any Ideas please let me know.

Thanks

Sparks only fly with a direct short and if you checked the entire run of the wires then... It could be the ignition switch is bad if there aren't any hot wires that are grounded out.

I did hear about the spark second hand......
If I am not getting spark what would be the first thing to check?

Disconnect the black/yellow from the power pack on the mtr and see what happens.
