I have a 2000 ficht 175 that has a miss to it, when i turn out the lights in the shop the the portion of porcelain that shows between the base of the plug and the boot of the wire has blue spark completely around it and and at the coil it is jumping spark out there also, i changed out the spark plug wire, the plug and the coil, still doing it. i took the wire off at the plug and it still jump at the coil, the plate that the coils mount to is very rusty would this be causing it. any ideas would help, thanks!

Yes, if you have a bad ground it will seek out a path. Clean up all contact areas!

Make sure you have the correct spark plugs in it.

Re: spark "crazy"

thanks for the info! I will clean it up and give that a try, there is a lot of rust on it, not sure why its there, the rest of the engine looks great. I went on line and found out what plugs my motor called for and thats what i have in it, i have changed out the plug thinking it was cracked. would it hurt to run a ground wire from the bolt on the coil to the ground bolt on the motor, just to see if thats the problem?

Re: spark "crazy"

Shouldn't hurt a thing. You're just playing around with grounds.
