Hi All, It's time to get her wet! :D I've been lightly tinkering on the 65 horse this winter and one of the last planned task's is spark plug wire assembly. I'd rather not have to buy a crimper for a one time use. Does anyone know where I could loan or rent one for a modest fee? The round or Star type?
Thanks in advance!

I don't think you'll need a crimper at all if you use the correct wire kit. That being said, I'm not familiar with that exact motor so I could be mistaken.

most wire kits, do not need a crimper. the have a spring with a pin, then the boot goes over it. i also strip back some insulation, and wrap the wire around the spring.

Re: Spark Plug Crimper

I thought I did a great job of sourcing individual pieces. Probaly half the price of a marine grade wire set. What I need to crimp is the threaded distributor side. 1) Stripped back and tinned a tiny coil that would still fit into the brass tip. 2) Then fill the tip with about 1/8" pool of hot solder, push the tinned coil end in and hold it there untill it's cool. 3) Now I want to crimp the brass sleeve to the insulation. The cost of a new crimper throws out nearly all the savings:(. Anybody have a crimper to loan?

If you can use just an ordinary wire crimper, just go to your local dollar store. Most have a cheapie that will suffice for one job. If you have a 'Big Lots', they will likely have a better version for $4-5.

Check with your local Napa. Some of them have the capability of making spark plug wires.
