I have a 1990 50 h.p. force ob. Will be putting it in the water for the first time. Will use it for fishing, so will my plugs foul if using it for trolling? Running nkg plugs.

Re: Spark plug fouling

Some people have trouble with fouling.
I believe it is a combination of several things that cause this.

Running too much oil in the fuel.
Mixture too rich.
Wrong plugs.
Weak spark.
Low compression.

Not a bad idea to take extra plugs and a wrench along in the boat.
It sure beats being stranded on the water.

I can honestly say that I never fouled any plugs on my 35 hp or my 70 hp.
I did foul them twice on my 90 hp, before I went through the engine and got it running properly.

Re: Spark plug fouling

Because they (for the most part) do not have oil injection, under prolonged idling conditions Force engines do tend to foul plugs. As stated above, do not use an overly rich oil mixture and carry a couple of clean plugs with you--just in case.

Some Force engines--I think some of the jet drives and perhaps some L Drives--DID have a gear drive oil pump and oil injection, but as far as I know, none of the outboards did. I do remember seeing somewhere a parts list that showed the gear and shaft for the oil pump and was surprised.
