Spark plug help 2 sizes? plugs holes rethreaded?

Hi,

Well, I was out the other day will the 1963 Evinrude 40HP and I guess I did not titen the one plug after I looked at it for damage, and I just happen to have the top cover off aswell and thats when the plug desied to shoot out into the water.

The plug was a vary special plug, it had a spacer on the plug. I guess the one cylinder plug whole got striped, and it was rethreaded. So, now the spacer that was on the plug is now in the river :-(

What should I do?? I think it takes a J4C Champion Spark Plug, but will not work on the rethreaded plug whole.

Is there a sized up plug size they may of rethreaded it too? maybe I need to get a biger plug. Or maybe some how get a new spacer for the J4C Champion Spark Plug? But I have no idea where to find a spacer or what the spacer is realy called.

It's probably a standard spark plug heli-coil any auto parts store should be able to help you out.

From what I understand, heli-coil is like a spring, The insert looked like this

Can I take off the cylinder head that hold the plugs, or does it have a gasket that would need to be replaced. I'm sure I can take the head to NAPA to have it matched up. I think its a 14mm plug

whats the most commen taps used? 2123?

If it blew the insert out, the threads are gone. The only hope now is a larger yet insert size. If that is impractical, replace the head. It shouldn't be too hard to find a good used one at aomci.org Use their free want ad pages. Yes you need a new gasket. They have them here at iboats, or NAPA can get them if they will mess with looking it up.

You can remove the head. It will need another gasket, but they're not too expensive. Your NAPA dealer should be able to order up another for you.

its still threaded, I hand tited it and for got it rach in down. So, the threads or there.

I guess I'll just haul the boat down to NAPA, be easyer then needing to find a new gasket for it.

would there be a larger spark plug I can use for it, if every thing else?
