Spark Plug not firing

I have a 2003 Mercury MOD# 1050412AD (ELPTO) and the middle cylnder is not firing. First time it happened I had a bad spark plug so I changed all 3 and no problem for one year. This year it happened again but the middle spark plug is not firing. When I pulled the plug off it was clean just like I just pulled it out of the box. The other 2 look like they were firing good. So, am I having problems getting fuel to the plug or no spark to the plug or both? I am not to smart on this subject so I need all the help I can get from anyone.

Re: Spark Plug not firing

If the plug is "dry" you are starving that cylinder of fuel and will burn the motor up...first thing to check is compression to make sure no damage has occured. second is to get a spark tester to insure nice blue spark on all cylinders. Next is a carb rebuilt and float check to insure that there is no fuel problem there. The list goes on and may be best served at this point to take it to a shop if you can't rebuild the carbs and check the floats...Ethanol is killing our motors if you don't stay up on the fuel system. You problem will take some time but not difficult if you are patient and do it in a methodical way. Get a manual if you are mechaniclly inclined.

Re: Spark Plug not firing

Thanks for the input. I was afraid of that. I will be going to the lake on Friday to work on it and hopefully the weather won't be to hot to work on it. All I need now is a service manual. I am hopeing there is no damage to the engine cause when it went out I had to get it back to the dock. It ran very rough with poor speed but made it. Again thanks for the info. :)
