I've got a 2000 Larson with a 1999 (charcoal) Volvo 5.7 PEFS in it. The boat has 180 hours on it, and I've only had it for 1.5 years. The boat is running great but I've been thinking about year-end maintenance. I downloaded the user manual, but I didn't see anything regarding how often spark plugs should be checked or replaced (I found the section that lists when everything else should be checked/lubed/replaced).

How often should the spark plugs be checked? How often should the spark plugs be replaced? Thanks for any help.

Re: Spark Plug Preventitive Maintenance or Replacement

i personally pull my plugs at least once a year. granted i got an older mercruiser, not a newer vp. but imho, i still think ya should pull them at least once a year. ya sure don't want them to rust in place. + ya can clean them or replace them (and gap them) when ya remove them. + ya can do a compression test if ya want while their out. + if ya want, ya can put some oil in the holes when there out too, for winterization. another + would be ya can see if the plugs all look similar. they should or if not, maybe somethings up that needs to be addressed.
imho, it's just a good idea to pull them at least once a year. hard to believe that vp don't have a recommended service interval.
