First off. I love working on my boat. its a newly found passion, but what is driving me crazy is that I order the part I think I need, receive it only to find out that I need more parts to install it or I need another part in the adjoining component. Then I have to wait for days or weeks for the new part. Is there anything I can do to have better ordering efficiency? I have the service and owners manual, and the parts manual is on the way. Is the parts manual the missing link?

one of the spark plug wire is bad. Do I need to replace all four? Do I need to replace all parts of all four? cap, lead, wires, etc.

I also realized that I do not have a safety switch to prevent motor from starting in gear. Is this part necessary or can I just ground out this wire. Never owned a boat. how often does this happen?

I am also missing a choke solenoid. an electronic choke would be sweet, but how big of a pain will it be if I don't install this system.

I ordered a coil for the magneto only to realize I needed the clips and the insulated washer (with help from this forum lol ) The condenser unit that sits above it seems to in decent condition but the Last thing I want is to finally get the clips and then need parts for the condenser. Should I order a condenser tune up kit now?

The spark plug wires on that motor have screw-in ends. You can buy everything separately, but it isn't a good idea because it takes a special tool to crimp the end on. So, order the complete wire assembly. You don't have to order all 4, or anything else you don't need.

The safety switch is just that--a safety switch. Of course you can get along without it, but nobody is going to tell you to do it. And kindly don't be pointing that thing at me when you start it.

The choke solenoid is there so you can choke and start it from up front. If you don't mind going back and opening the door and pull the choke knob to cold-start it, that's ok with me.

It is customary to replace points and condenser. Necessary?? Who knows--are they bad? Bad condensers will usually run, but it is a matter of "how bad" they are. They usually go downhill slowly over a period of time and age.
