Spark Plug Wires

Does anyone know? Can 7.4 Ltr Auto spark plug wires be used on a 4.3 Ltr Mercruser? The 7.4 are not Marine so I realize that OMC would be better. But I have two wires that have just a faint spark (only visable at night) on my 4.3Mercruser and I have a set of 7.4 wires that came off a Motorhome I had tuned up.

Thanks TD that what I was afraid of. I was also told I could put vasaline on the wires and that would contain the spark. They are just ticking at the distributer. I wouldn't have know it but I could hear a faint ticking but I couldn't find what the noise was so I started the engine in the dark and sure enough it was visable. I just didn't want to have to buy new plug wires as those are only about three years old. They are OMC. There is no missing.

Chuck, Aftermarket spark plug wires and tun up kits are avail for that motor at many discount marine stores. You will save a fair amount of $ over OEM. The last time I replaced the cap, rotor and wires on my Merc 4.3LX, it ran so much better.

you can use them for a temp fix, but get the good ones.

Ayuh,... I gotta disagree,...

The Difference between Marine wires,+ Auto wires is,..
The Ends,+ the Lengths....

The Ends have to be of the Right Style,+ the Right angles...

The Length of auto wires are usually Shorter as they go over the motor,+ on a boat they go down,+ around, then back up...

Thanks Guys. I think I'll just spring for the tune up kit with everything and replace it all including rotor and cap. I was just trying to use what I already had on hand and be cheap. Cheep,Cheep, Cheep

Forget the Vasaline. Put the new wires on and buy some dielectric grease.
