I have replacement spark plug wires for my 1986 Johnson 110HP motor (CD Ignition). The original wires were solid wire core with a resistance of 0 (zero) Ohms. The replacement wires (Sierra) have an internal resistance of 350 Ohms. Will this cause any problems or changes as to how hot the plugs run? I am using QL77JC4 plugs, which have their own built-in resistance. Current gap is 0.040".

normally outbaord wires are solid core. Of course, normally Sierra makes the right replacement parts. Did you buy outbaord wires from sierra?

Re: Spark Plug Wires

Can't remember who I bought them through, but 3 of the 4 wires are still in the original package. It is a Sierra bag complete with their logo, their web address, their part number (18-5231-1), and the statement "Replaces J/E 582365 8MM MAG CORE WIRE Length 9"". 0582365 is the J/E part number right from the original parts list. Right on the Sierra wire itself it states "Hi Performance Suppression Spiral Core". Don't see how Sierra can say that this is a replacement unless the spec from J/E had changed.

I bought these wires intending to use them but when I found that they were resistor wires, I backed off and put them into my emergency spares box. I want to use new wires now but don't feel like spending another $40+ after all the $$ I have pumped into the motor chasing other problems.
