Re: spark plug

your motor was built to run on Champion J4C plugs, gapped at .030, if you do a lot of slow speed trolling or running, you can open the gap to .035 or .040, this makes it idle better and cuts down of fouling. i would not use anything else in it.

Re: spark plug

You really seem to want to spend extra money on your engine what with questioning the use of "good gas" and now expensive spark plugs. The ignition system on that engine was designed at the time for use with a specific spark plug. Times have changed and so have ignition systems so the advantages (if there are really any advantages) can be realized. I suggest you run what was recommended. If you are experiencing plug fouling, do a thorough decarb, verify that the ignition system is performing properly (spark check), verify that you are using the correct fuel mix and that the carb is properly adjusted. A weak ignition system cannot fire plugs as it should so going with hi-tech plugs is of no value.

Re: spark plug

The marketing department may say it'll start easier and have more HP, but they're the only ones that really say it. Independent testing shows there is no real difference between the standard plug listed for a motor and high zoot pricy one that goes for three times or more the price. The type of plug you're talking about will last longer than a cheap one so they're used in cars designed for them being changed at 100,000 miles. You will be changing your plugs long before you actually wear them out, so the extra cost will be a waste.
