I have a 1976 evinrude 40 hp. Here lately it has been fouling plugs. Looks to be fuel fouled, and wet. Not carbon fouling.

Been doing alot of idling around watching the fish finder. I believe the plugs I am running are L77JC8.

Is there a hotter plug I can run or one better suited for idling around?

should I adjust the carb, maybe turn the screw in 1/2 turn?

I bought some castrol 2 stroke oil, going to give that a try. Was running the cheap no-name brand of oil. Also might try the Sea Foam and see if that might help.

Also, If I'm out and a plug fouls, does it hurt to idle in on the one cylinder? There is only one carb so both cylinders should be oiling, is that correct?

Kinda frustrating, ran all duck season on the same plugs, now fishing I carry a whole box of plugs and might run through 2 sets in a day.

Thanks for the help, Gary

Re: Spark plugs fouling

You may need a new thermostat. Check to see if your motor is getting up to operating temperature. Otherwise and plugs will not get hot enough to burn off residue from inefficient combustion.
