I had new manifolds put on one of my motors.Since acess is a problem I asked that new plugs be put in while the manifold was off.I supplied the plugs NGK YR5.The mechanic never put them in because he said they were much shorter than the plugs that were in there. Are shorter plugs ok????The motor is a 1988 merc.5.0LX Charlie

Shorter plugs will run colder. If you have good plug color with the existing plugs I wouldn't change it. If the longer plugs look OK stick with the same ones, if they look burnt or melted at all then go with shorter ones.
