Hi, I am running a spark test on my 88 175 johnson. I hooked up a remote starter switch. Is it going to spark with the key off? I don't want it to start while doing the spark test. ????

Are you qualified to make this test? Yes it can spark if the harness is unplugged. Yes it can start. Why are the spark plugs in it? It also can make a nice flame thrower if the cylinders have fuel in them.

Shelby,Disconnect all sparkplug leads and remove plugs.Disconnect fuel line at engine.Adjust tester gap between 7/16 and 1/2 inch.Ground the leads not being tested and turn key to on position.Crank with remote starter.Engine needs to turn around 300 rpms for decent reading.
