Hi
I Replaced my 86 mod merc 140 with a 2002 3,0L, which had delco EST ignition, since I havent get one of the plug on the distributor yet(the one the shift interrupter should connect on), I put the old conventional delco ignition on this new engine.
The threads on the new sparkplug where longer then the old ones, so I decided to use them, will this sparkplug work with the conventional ignition, or are there differences on sparkplugs between electronic and conventional ignition?
I took it out for the first time yesterday, and found a little waterleak at the cylinderhead gasket, there where also a noise I guess came from the rockercover area, so I took it home and checked the cylinderhead bolts and valve adjusting, they where incorrect, so I give it a new try today and see how it will work out.
Regards
Affa

Re: Sparkplug conventional/electronic ignition

Hi affa,
I Sure that the differences in the Spark Plugs is because of the Head casting..........
Not the Ignition used.............
so I give it a new try today and see how it will work out
Good Luck................................ ;)

Re: Sparkplug conventional/electronic ignition

The only suggestion I can give is to check the gap on the plugs, sometimes the gap with electronic ignition is a lot wider. Like about 0.45. with regular ignition I would set them about 0.32-0.35.
