Instruction manual states to use a specific Quicksilver Optimax oil, does somebody use a standard TC-W3?
Cheers

If your engine is still under mfg's warranty, then stick with the Quicksilver oil. If not, then any quality TCW3 should do. Regards.

Well, I don't agree.

The Optis are DFI (direct injected) and don't have fuel circulating in the crankcase along with the oil. They have different oil needs than carbed engines.

I would use nothing but the type oil specified by the Owners Manual. It doesn't have to be Quicksilver as long as it is specified for DFI outboards.

I agree with JB. The DFI systems oils the bearing different than w/mixed fuel/oil.

Absolutely. And especially if it's still under warranty...

Never stray into cheap oil or you'll pay the price in parts many many times over. I work on these things. I see it all the time. Use Opti oil and nothing but Opti oil. Those that don't pay the price many times over in failed powerheads and fouled sparkplugs. At about sixteen dollars times six, having to replace fouled sparkplugs alone makes it unwise to stray from what's specified. The only DFI outboard that I know uses conventional outboard oil is Yamaha, they were designed for it. Opti's definately aren't.

Re: Specific oil for Optimax?

thanks to all for answers, I interpreted the sentence
"if Mercury optimax/DFI or Quicksilver DFI 2 cycle engine oil is not available, we recommend using Mercury or Quicksilve TC-W3 premium plus 2 Cycle oil"
as " you can use every TC-W3 oil".
Every producer says "our oil that satisfies TC-W3 standard is an high quality one" why don't believe it?
