Speed Sensor Mounting

I'am installing a new fishfinder with a speed sensor on our '75 Beachcraft, and have two questions. One, can the speed sensor be mounted on the same side of the boat as the transducer? If so, how far apart should they be. Two, the current transducer is mounted midway between a strake and the side of the boat (about 6in from the side). Is this an OK location, or would it be better more toward the center? I don't know how well this location worked for the old fishfinder. So many columns of pixels were missing it was unreadable (came with the boat).<br /><br />Thanks for your help!

Steve<br />Yes you can mount on the same side. In general should mount about 12 inches from the motor. If you get too close to the side may not work too good when on plane. When on plane if it is close to the side may come out of the water as the sides run much higher than nearer the center on a V hull boat. The prefered side for a right hand prop is the starboard side.<br /><br />If you have not already mounted may want to think about mounting a transducer mounting block then mounting the tranducers to that block. This way as you change transducers over the years still only have two holes in the boat with everything mounted to the transducer block.<br /><br />On my boat I have mounted as close together as the mounting holes will alow and have had no trouble.<br /><br />On my boat some of my smaller transducers I just glued on to the back of my aluminum boat.<br /><br />Go to the link below and do a search for " transducer mount "<br /><br /> http://www.cabelas.com/index.jhtml
