Just posting pics of day #1 on the Speeditwin Cottage Racer Restoration. Not sure what way I am going to go cosmetic wise, but will play it by ear as I go. It is a mish mash of parts, so no real need to stick to traditional colours. I am of course going to get rid of the steel plate head catchers and make up nice SS ones, same with the tank elevator. Will likely keep the ELTO gearcase as well. (It adds 5mph) ;) Wish me luck.

After evening #1, got her stripped down. Time to open up the powerhead. Compression seemed ok and the bores/pistons look good, but might as well hone and re ring possibly. We will see.

Re: Speeditwin Cottage Racer Restoration

Well as stated, is a bit of a mish mash of parts, but the Elto gearcase and OMC mag are '31 or '32 vintage. The lugs on the cylinders are from a 6039.

Lots of aftermarket parts as well, like the open WISECO stacks (exhaust removed), 2 ring high dome pistons, the giant Vacturi carb and adaptor with large capacity filter bowl for C Service racing, fuel tank has been elevated to clear the stacks, as well as provide better gravity feed to the carb.

Opening up the powerhead tonight if my wife lets me play ;)

Gotta find a new lug, 1 is NFG unfortunately. The pistons look ok. Off to the blasting cabinet. Will start rebuild and paint this weekend.

There are still some NOS ones out there. Short of that, you can order them from a ring manufacturer. Mine look ok, but havent mic'd them yet in the bore. Rod cap bolts are wanting to fight me ;)

I like it! I just sold a Super C (Elto 1930 C-Service). Still have my Speeditwin with the tractor "puller" lower unit...

Always wanted a tractor lower unit, never been at the right place at the right time to get one though. Id hold onto it!

Might paint the lower with the traditional grey, then a black powerhead. Of course polish the gearcase, flywheel, carb etc... Unsure of a colour combo yet. Im going to make up some new head catchers for sure, not a big fan of the steel plate, hard to make that look nice.
