Speedo on a 97 Mercruiser 3.0 ltr

I just bought a used boat, 1997 searay 175 3.0 mercruiser, alpha one outdrive.<br />Just had it in the shop, they rebuilt the carb,replaced the fuel filter, replaced all the bellows, replaced the impeller, and changed the outdrive fluid.<br />Now the boats speedo does not work,is there any way I can tell if this is the dealer's fault or did the speedo go bad?

your speedo works on water pressure comeing from a small rubber hose on the outdrive that enters the boat and makes it way up to your speedo it is very easy to pick up even a tiny weed and block the inlet that lets it the water if you have a manual it is very easy to see the hose and check if it is blocked or broken .we have a lot of ell grass down here and mine stops working at some point every time i go out it usally only takes slowing down and running in reverse for a few seconds to clear the inlet<br /><br />tommays

Every time I have work done on my outdrive they always seem to leave the little rubber hose disconnected. That is most likely the case for you. It should be as simple as just plugging the hose back in.

I have the same problem. But in my case the tube is plugged solid.<br /><br />Check the hole infront of the out drive , use a small needle to make sure it is not plugged.<br /><br />My is plugged solid, and have given up on the speedo.

Can someone be a little more specific than "front of the outdrive" ? I'm having trouble locating this tube on mine. Thanks!
