Im certainly stumped. Apprechiate any help....
When I removed my lower unit, I had to cut the pick up tube (hose) at the coupler-as I didnt have enough slack to get the lower unit off..

I have since tested the boat & all appears to work fine except the oem speedo. I ordered more hose & 2 couplers & gromets.. How does the hose connect to the coupler ? I am planning to reattach the two cut ends. I can not figure out how to take apart the coupler.. OR do the hose ends just slip inside & seal themselves...Thanks again for the assistance...

Not familiar with your particular motor but the ones I have seen are no more than a barbed fitting. Tubing just pushes onto the barbed fitting.

Thanks for your reply.. I have a 2000 135 Optimax.
This is what the coupler looks like on mine.. I suspect the hose just slips in both end like you say & the barbs hold it & most likely seal it..

Oh, different than what I thought. Looks like a quick-connect fitting that uses "teeth" to grab the outside tubing and an o-ring to seal it. Similar type fittings are used in pneumatic systems.

I would bet that the two barrels (one at each end) are spring loaded and will slide towards each other if you squeeze them together. This releases the "teeth" and you should be able to pull the tubing out of the fitting.

Re: speedo "pickup tube COUPLER"

After reading your latest reply, I inserted the new tube into the new fitting. I believe you are correct. Looks like it seals pretty good. Not spring loaded, but difinately grips tight.. I had to pull pretty good to get it to come out.. Good to know.. You mention "Similar type fittings are used in pneumatic systems"... I understand that this is NOT a water hose but a air pressure line that somehow runs the speedo- so you are dead on again !

Thank you for your assistance !!
My Lund & I thank you :)
