I have a 1985 Johnson 90 hp outboard engine. All of the gauges are connected and working except for the speedometer. The back of the gauge only has one wire coming out and i followed the wire down and it leads to the engine but does not go into it, it hangs on the side. The wire is actually a tube that goes from hanging on the engine to the speedometer. What kind of speedometer is this and where can I connect it to?
Thanks

Re: Speedometer Connection

T,

The speedometer is a pnuematic (air driven) device, not electrical. You probably have two connections on the back of it.

1. A wire for the backlighting. It should go to one of the other guages "light" terminal.

2. The other connection is for the pnuematic tube. The tube should run back to the engine. There should be a connnection for the tube just above the cavitation plate. You may have to splice the tube there with "Tee" connection. The tubing can be found at automotive stores and is vacuum tubing.
