Just finished impeller change on my 1994 40 Merc & noticed the speedometer tube was shot as I was reinsatalling the LU so I just yanked it.
In hindsight I'm wondering if I shouldve replaced the tube or @ least capped that plastic fitting it connects to ?
If water gets into that plastic fitting could it find it's way into my gearcase ?
Do I have to drop the LU again & take care of this ?
APPRECIATE ANY HELP :)
thanks, Alan

It won't hurt your gearcase, and you can detect speed in other ways.

DHP

Thanks DHP,
From what I remember the pitot tube spedometers for boats arent too accurate anyways, not worried about installing one of those..
I just wasnt sure if maybe there was a oil seal under there or some other issue that required me to have capped off that fitting or replaced that tube ..
Appreciate it sir, you guys do a great service here..!
