I have a 1990 Bayliner Capri 18'. The speedometer doesn't work, not even a little at WOT. When I look at the pickup stem at the back of the boat it has a little hole in the bottom. If I blow air into the hole gently the speedometer needle will regester. It is respective with the amout of air. The stem can be set in three different posittions, one up, one down and one a little forward. I have tried it in all positions. It will not work on the water.
When I was at the boat dealer I noticed the same type of pickup stems on the other boats, but where mine has a hole, they had a little silver piece. I am missing something? Thanks for responding.

oil slick,

The part you are talking about is called a pitot tube. Try replacing it, they are inexpensive.
