The deck of our Glastron is full of spider cracks, one repair shop said the gelcoat was put on too thick and being sitting in the sun caused all the spider cracks. There are way too many to grind and fill; some one recommended giving it a rough sanding and a couple of coats of Gluvit - has anyone used this product and what were your short and long term results.

Thanks in advance
Jim

Sounds like it wasn't taken care of, but I've found most the cracks come about from the deck flexing, same thing happens with thin hulls. You could sand and re-epoxy paint with Gluvit or other epoxy paint. If the deck is flexing it will crack again later.

When ever you have extensive gelcoat spiderwebbing, there's just one sure fire method for repairing them. That is to grind off ALL the gelcoat down to the underlying glass and then either Paint or re-Gelcoat it.
