Spiders

I did an extensive series of searches and found nothing on spiders so - - -

We have a bunch of spiders around our place. I was noticing their web construction and am wondering how in the devil do they get a strand or thread of the web horizontally. By that I mean the center section of the web will be the size of lets say a pie plate which is anchored by a thread 4-5' away horizontally.

Gots lots of serious thinking to do about that. Any ideas?

They go out there and anchor a thread, then make their way back and turn the slack into another part of the web. Really interesting to watch.

I enjoy watching writing spiders at work building. What engineers they are! Got slide rules or computers in their heads.
