Spinning prop noise

I have a Merc 260 with an alpha one outdrive. When the unit is out of the water and in neutral, if I spin the prop, there is a slight ratcheting noise. Is this normal, or should it be silky smooth and quit when you turn the prop?<br /><br />Thanks!

Should be smooth in neut. Ratchet one way in forward and other way in reverse. Sounds like your shift cable is out of adjustment.<br /> john
