Re: Spiny Dogfish as bait?

As for commercial interests, don't even get me started. Some of those guys would like to kill off everything that doesn't have a market value this week. And of course, if you ask a commercial fisherman, nothing they have ever done has ever had a negative impact on fishing. It's ALWAYS someone else's fault. To be fair, a lot of sport fishermen are the same way.

Ecosystems are more complicated than our narrow human commercial interests can account for, and if there wasn't a purpose for the spiny dogfish to fulfill, then god/evolution (take your pick) wouldn't have created them.

Well said. The day I cut the nose off an animal for my own amusement is the day I take a good long look in the mirror and then get some help...

I like fishing as much as anyone, and don't depend on it for my livelihood, but if this industry isn't regulated, it's a guarantee that there will be no fish for anyone soon enough - those govt scientists are the ones doing the math to prove it. Until then, keep killing and torturing those dogfish. They deserve it for playing for their God-given role in nature... and I'm sure it will improve your catch.

My thoughts exactly and eloquently put, too.

I fished aboard an inshore trawler for a living in the English channel and have eaten lots of Doggies or "Rock" as they call em in the UK......Y'know, when you become hungry enough and theres not much to eat, you'll eat em and be glad of it... the flesh consiststency is large flakes with one rubbery bone running throughout, personally I think they taste great.

Y'know, it never ceases to amaze me at the number of folk living in this part of the world who turn their noses up at the thought of consuming bottom feeders ....Yet, will put on their Sunday suites then go to a high class restuarant and order a lobster.

Newsflash..... lobster are bottom feeders, too.

out west here, I have kept one out of the thousands that we catch and striped the white belly up and had good luck with the Halibut and true cod.
