Looks like there's something else....
At the back of the engine...underneath the latch for the cover...are three holes in a line from right to left.
When running the engine...some water spits out of them. It runs steady out of the other holes in the engine...but a little bit spits out of these three holes.
My neighbor told me these holes are for exhaust gas only and if any water comes out of them at all...then I probably have a blown head gasket.
Does anyone know about this?
Thanks again.

Re: spitting water

Im no expert but my outboard a 1978 85hp johnson has exhaust through prop and so does youres.. but Mine also has water come out the three holes.with the exhaust just under the latch I dont know maybe we both have blown heads..However if youre head was blown youd notice a lack of power do you?If not I wouldnt worry bout it..

Re: spitting water

It would help to know what kind of motor this is and what model number. If you have it hooked up to water muffs the water has to come out somewhere. Typically gravity gets most of the water after it comes out the head and drains back down the motor leg. This is also where the exhaust gases go.

Same Froce 120? Normal condition.
They are exhaust releif holes that double as a cooling water telltale.

Re: spitting water

Normal. Water should spit with the earmuffs on at idle and flow pretty good in the water.

Larry

The bubbles on the bottom are exhaust. The small spray you see is from the relief holes your refering to. It shoots a good 5 feet behind the boat. BTW thats a newly installed impeller to boot.

There is absolutly nothing wrong with that motor.
Besides needing a rejet for the altitude!> :)
