What is the difference in all these types of outboards.

SPL = special, which is a cost reduced version of the regular engine and usually rated 2 HP less. 90 = 88 SPL, 50 = 48 SPL etc. These engines usually don't have oil injection or tilt&trim. Commercial is another name for the same type of engine. Loop Charged and Cross Flow are speciic engine designs. Loop Charged is the design used most recently up until the introduction of the direct injected two strokes.

Some of the commercial engines had beefier gear cases with a different ratio than their recreational counterpart. Sometimes a commercial motor had a "softer" head(s) compared to the recreational motor.

This comparison is about domestic motors. Export motors had these and other differences.
