Re: Splicing Transducer Wire

It is a coaxial cable, TG, and it can be spliced. Too hard to describe with words only. Try Googling "splicing coax".

Chances are it is a multi-conducter cable, red and black being the power leads. I've done many, it is a tedious process because of the wire size (around 28GA). I use 18-22GA uninsulated butts with adhesive lined shrink sleeving over them. Triple fold the stripped wire back on itself to build up the diameter, stagger your connections to reduce overall splice size and to ensure that should one small splice fail and a wire fall out of a butt, it won't come in contact with anything else...

Re: Splicing Transducer Wire

Yers, I have spliced coax on transducers more than I care to.. but, I have used the type of splice connector your local cable co. uses in your house for an old flasher unit.. it works well.
Also, I have spliced the newer Humminbird LCD type by

A: Staggering power/grnd wire splices. ( as someone else mentioned.. makes a more streamlined, neater repair)
B: save as much of the shielded material as possible to re-wrap shield splice... add aluminum foil around the shield repair if necc. ONLY the shielded wiring.. don't throw the power grnd wires under it, if possible.

C: waterproof this whole repair as best as possible.. green corrosion LOVES wiring repairs.

The " Bertram Yacht crowd" I've had the pleasure of meeting on this electronics forum might chastise you, because you didn't get the servants to run down to the Marina and buy a new transducer/cable assembly PRONTO, but this repair can be done cheap, effective, and permanent.
