I am trying to remove my prop but cannot figure out how to remove the spline washer. Is there a special tool for this?

Ayuh,...... Welcome Aboard,...... Hopefully the propshaft was greased when it was last put on,......

The castellated splined washer, aft of the prop, ahead of the tin lock, 'n nut, Should just slide right off,......

If not, try a few light taps with a hammer,.....

If it continues to argue, 'n the prop is in the same condition,.....
Ya might just have to decide what gets destroyed, to get the prop, from the drive,....
'n it's never pretty,....

Grease is the key,......
A well greased prop, 'n shaft, don't corrode, 'n seize,.....

Do you mean the "spider" washer? There should be 3 tabs bent down to lock the nut to the castellated washer Bend these up with a screwdriver or punch. Now loosen the nut (spider washer will spin). After the nut is off, everything should slide off the propshaft.

no it's the thicker brass spline washer not the tin tab washer. I have tried WD 40, penetrating lubricant and tapped with a hammer several times. Nothing. Can I try a little heat from a heat gun or do I just have to cut the whole prop off?

Those castellated washers can be part of the prop (one piece) or separate pieces. I would expect you to have a newer prop, where is it separate. If you have a modular prop, it will run the entire depth of the prop.

You have tilted the outdrive up and soaked the splines where the SS propshaft meets the brass castellated washer in penetrating oil?

Next try is to put a 2X4 between the prop blade and the OD housing and try some firm prying against all prop blades, in turn. If that doesn't work, a puller is next weapon of choice.

I am not sure if you could cut the brass washer with a dremel cutting disk and try to split it due to it's shape and recess into the prop. I wonder if heat will do anything but destroy the rubber or plastic prop hub.
