spline grease

O.K., got up the courage to change the water pump impeller on my 1999 90C Yamaha. Some instructions mention "Yamaha Spline Grease". I have plenty of Spray Lithium Grease, Green Marine Grease, Heavy black CV Joint Grease, but no specific "Spline Grease" for the drive shaft splines and shift shaft splines. Which grease is really best or does it matter, and Bond-O, I'm aware that "any grease is better than no grease". Any opinions on this? Thanks!

Re: spline grease

most of those greases will wash off over time, I prefer the Quicksilver spline grease its blue and will not come off even in salt, use it on all your lower unit bolts and water pumps bolts and it will always come apart later with no hassles.

Peace, B.

Re: spline grease

I either use mercs spline grease or quicksilver special lube 101.

Re: spline grease

Thanks guys, I'm sure it's better to use the correct grease now than have the splines stuck together with corrosion later.
