Anyone who bought a Sporqster tach, do you feel like the tach is malfunctioning? I only ask because I was out skiing, and could never get above the 4000 RPM range. Normally, without skiiers or a large load, I can get up to the 5200 Range.

Now I realize that there are probably other issues (I actually think shift linkage is loose), but someone else had posted about their tach and thought it was off. Thanks, Matt

Re: Sporqster Tach

That was me who thought the tach was off/not working right. I was just going to post back on my original thread what the problem was. My tach does work, I bought a brand new prop (17 pitch) about two months ago, well it is spun. Just out of curiosity I tried the 19 pitch that was a spare when I bought boat. The rpms went to 4700. I could see on the housing where the lock nut an washer were that the washer was grinding into the prop housing.

Now this is a stupid, inexperience question, but if I have a real heavy load or pulling a tube/skiier, I still should be getting maximum RPMs, just a lower speed, correct? So, under loaded conditions, my top speed will suffer, but the top RPMs shouldn't.

Re: Sporqster Tach

Actually, this is my first boat. Just bought it back in July. I really don't have the answer, but from searching the forum to find the answer to my problem, they seem to go hand in hand (load, rpm, and speed). I am sure someone will chime in that can give you a definite answer.

No, you will not still be getting max rpms unless you are getting a ton of prop slippage or your hub is spun. The effect is like you just added 400 lbs or more to the boat when pulling skiers. You usually check for WOT with 1/2 tank of gas and 1 person on the boat.

Re: Sporqster Tach

So, RPM is dependent on payload. In essence, its like a car, at 65 mph, you get 2300 rpm, at 75 mph you get 2600 rpm, etc. Okay, I think I get it now. I was under the impression that RPM at WOT would be the same in any situation, ie if pulling a skiier at WOT, I should still be operating at 5200 RPM rather than 4000 RPM.

Thanks,
Matt
