I've tagged a few posts on other threads but I'll dedicate this one to my particular problem, namely low power out of the hole and at Wide Open Throttle. Top end was measured at 28 mph using GPS, should be near 40.

The boat is a 1995 Sea Rayder with a Sport Jet 90, The powerhead was replaced in 2002 and prior owner says it only has about 20 hours on it.. Boat starts easily - usually on first or second touch of the key. Idles smooth. Compression is good in all cylinders (145, 150, 155psi) New plugs, idle mix adjusted. Rev limiter checked and OK.

Drive unit seems OK, new gear oil in shaft resevoir & Stator. No obstructions in intake. No visible damage to impeller. Clearance between impellar and wear ring seems tight. The black paint is blown off the interface but the clearance is limited to the thickness of a few sheets of paper.

As I see it, the problem has to be one of the following:

- High Speed carb jets are fouled (How would I check this?)

-Despite the appearance that all is well with the impeller and wear ring, it's still possible they are out of tolerance.

- The dreaded stator, trigger, flywheel magnet problem I've read so much about.

Looking for suggestions on what to chase down next.

To close the loop on this one - the problem was tracked down to a dirty Carb.
