Re: Sportcraft Boats

Yes, they are out of business. I also have probably about the same boat as you in an '84 year. Haven't had it long and just put a new transom in it. They are a deep well designed boat of adequate quality. Built in Perry, Fla. they are well known as a local boat. Company built quite a few larger boats that were popular as Great Lakes charter vessels. Understand the company failed not because of product deficiencies but because of too many company planes and lavish practices. What power do you have? I have a 185 Johnson. Fuel capacity 70 gals.. Solid with huge stringers. Hope this helps.

i have a 1989 200hp johnson vro, mines an 82 the 82 model has a varey low transome, i have like 2 1/2 feet of freeboard on all sides and i have like 1/2 a foot from where the motor is mounted. i think thats why in the newer models that ive seen they have the motor mounted on an outside bracket thing and the transome has the same hight as the rest of the boat. ive taken it out once so far and it rides pretty nice. i havent been out in rough water yet so im not sure how its gonna handel

The self bailing feature works well and the transom height for a 25" motor has not been too low so far. At 4000 lbs. it is solid as a rock and has a bone dry ride. Still playing with prop pitch but will run in the low 40's so far with a pretty heavy load. Very nice to fish out of and it was cheap.

Guys, My neighbor has a 30' sportcraft. It appears to be brand new. Another neighbor has a 25' Sportcraft, which I expect is from the mid 90's. Is this the same company you guys are discussing as being out of bidness?

Re: Sportcraft Boats

Depends upon the year but Sportcraft is noted for not sealing limber holes and such in the stringers allowing water to infiltrate and rot the stringers and transom.

They may look good through that fiberglas encapsulation but I would poke around a bit to be sure. One 27' I looked at was eight or nine years old and they were shot, turned to mush.

Re: Sportcraft Boats

I have just purchased what is registered as a 20' 1983 fisherman; however, the serial placcard shows 1984 Model. Does anyone know how much this boat weighs, and/or where to get parts for it?

I think you're thinking about Bayliner, they are known for those 2 problems in 80's boats. I've never heard of those problems with SportCraft.

I have an 1989 1500 Sprint with a 90HP Yamaha and it is nice and dry under the floor. I open it up to check something with the gas tank and it looked good.

an old Sport craft thread, a friend of mine recently aquired an '89 31' mid cabin twin 4.3 mercs and I believe he said the model was Avenza, or something along those lines, lol Haven't been able to find any details on such a vessel or even pics...
