This might get a little long.
Ok I've searched most of what I could find on this issue on this site and for the most part got pretty confused
Here is what I have:
I have a 1998 252 Sportcraft H/T, it has a I/B with a single screw. I need to replace most of the deck on the starboard side. about 8 feet to get into good wood. This is a fiberglass boat, the plywood decking is sandwiched, with what looks like some kind of mat on the bottom and fiberglass on top. It looks like the rotting started where the hole is cut for the engine compartment, that compartment has 'Starboard" rails held in place by stainless wood screws, the engine cover fits over there rails. These rails have to be removed to service the engine, hence water into the plywood over the last 11 years, meaning most of the wood on the starboard side of the boat rotten. I don't think this is a structal issue for the simple fact that with the engine comparment and access hatches the boat is split right up the middle from the transom to the helm. here's my plan :
Cut most of the decking on the starboard side out, down to the bottom mat, this cut will measure approx 24" by 8' about 3/4 of the way from the helm to the stern.the best I can tell it is 1/2 plywood. Replace the plywood, epoxy the fiberglass top back in place on top of the repair and then have the intire inside of the boat sprayed with truck bed liner. There will also be some minor repair on the port side right around the engine compartment. (same Issue) So Here are my questions:
I only want to do this one time
1. Should I use marine plywood or will a good quality extiour plwood work if it is sealed well before it is put in place ?
2. No matter what type of plywood suggested what do I use to seal it before installation.
3. Is there any type of stainless or brass T-Nut available that I can epoxy in place for the "Starboard" rails around the engine compartment so I don't have this problem again.
Well you guys get the drift of what I need to do, I'm I forgetting anything ? I'm I taking this 2 lightly, doen't seem to me like it will be a tuff job, just a little time comsuming .. Thanks for your help .. John
