I was just changing the fluids on my 97 175 Sportjet XR4, and When I took the fill/vent screw out to drain the stator, there was ALOT of pressure behind it. (Got a blue oil shower!) My question is why? I filled it myself and there was no pressure, why/how does the presssure build in there? All responses are appreciated!
Ryan

Re: SportJet under PRESSURE

I'm just guessing here. The stator sits directly behind the jet pump, with the shaft seal facing into the stream of water being discharged from the pump. If the seal is bad, the pressurized water discharged by the pump could find its way into the stator chamber. If this is happening, you should see water in the oil, which is bad news for your bearings.

Thanks for the reply........There was no water in the oil, so that rules that out. I dont think there are bearings in the satator, just bushings. (But I could be wrong, so if anyone knows for sure, please let me know, as I will have a bigger repair!) Thanks,
Ryan
