being seeing this on tv and now seen at wall-mart and our feed store, what is yall thoughts on this stuff? thinking about getting a few cans to colt over were i am going glass and reasin(after),like all the corners and joins on the stingers and transom. my thinkn it would just add alittle more water proofing if the reasin was to crack or if there are any pin holes anywere. cause i was thinkn about paintn it all but might just use this.

I would be concerned about UV stability anywhere it was exposed, and whether a slight rip or tear in the rubber--or even at the edges--creates an opening for water to trap itself inder the rubber sheet.

Just my nickle.95...

Proper fiberglassing will prevent any of your concerns and probably cost less than this "Snake-oil-in-a-can"

I would check the product specifications very carefully and determine its water resistance and chemical compatibilty with poly resin before spending mucho dinero on something that might/could/maybe, come back and bite you in the wallet...

But hey, if I am wrong...1- it wouldn't be the first time, 2- it won't be the last time, and 3- I will have to eat my words and learn something new...

Best Regards,

Only experience i have with it is limited but successfull. I know many people that use it to coat their rims in the winter time to protect from salt. I have used it in places in my boat for aesthetics. The brand im familiar with is Plasidip, which u can pick up in any auto parts store for like 5-6 bucks a can. Do a search on here for "plasidip" and it will pull up many thread about it. Incoop has a good one http://forums.iboats.com/showthread.php?t=519776&highlight=plastidip
I wouldn't trust it for structural work but for minor stuff here and there its had good success for what it is

was not going to use it for a short cut, for a peace of mind going to glass in stingers and transom, and b-4 poaring in the foam was going to paint or spray over every thing,
yea was worndering how it would react with the reasin and foam......as far as the uv lite should not get any and the water getting traped under is what i am trying to avode....bond-o thats what i am worried about (snake oil) like GT stated but was seeing if anyone on here has tried any...thought about the bed liner stuff also....but like i said just an extra peace of mind, but just thought some info from u guys its my first restore and like most over thinkn it all and worried it wont last long or want it to last longer this time.

If you are going to Foam your boat, you don't need to do ANYTHING except foam it. No paint, No bedliner No nothing. Just foam it. the foam will seal anything it touches. It's almost like a glue. If you do it right you won't have to worry about it.

I used plastidip and after a couple of seasons, it began cracking.

Is this the "screen door in the row boat" stuff? If it is, I would only consider it a temporary fix for the problems it's supposed to solve... and I don't want anything temporary in my boat!

I've Been itching to install a screen door in the bottom of my boat since I saw this stuff on TV, though I think that's about the only thing I'd use it for on my boat. It is similar to the rubberized undercoatings sold at auto parts stores, but a little thicker. As has already been mentioned in this thread, If you did your glass work right there is no need to further waterproof it- if it's done so poorly as to require additional waterproofing, you've got bigger problems!

"screen door in the row boat" stuff ... If it's an infomercial product then its probably over priced if it works or not. I was thinking if such a product was durable and inexpensive it may work for a nonslip spray-on floor coating for a johnboat or small fishing rig. We already know it works on basement doors in rowboats.
